It was very interesting how clear he was about his Role. He has a very specific remit outlined, he realises that he is not a researcher, not in the rigorous sense, at least. He is Local. And yet it is a Global Taxonomy that falls beneath his fingertips. Has he traveled to many places? I should have asked him that. Had his Journey in Natural History ever entailed extensive geographical travel?
(I smell pepper in the air)
I don’t think it matters, that is not really a part of his role, as he has defined it. I really appreciated the clarity of his position. There was no pride in it per se, and yet there was no modesty either, it was just simply, it is simply, his position. He is a curator of Natural History – specifically. And the role of the curator is one that remains fixed in a location, one that knows the depths of history within a place.
