I’ll be carrying out a ‘reading’ at the Legs Foundation for the Translation of Things Library, curated by artist Helen Horgan, at the Highlanes Gallery in Drogheda this coming Saturday the 3rd November, at 12 noon.
I’ll be sharing how I am preparing the ground, so-to-speak, for new writing coming out of an engagement specifically with books as orientating objects in my own work.
The books I’ll be reading from, and which hopefully others will lend their voices to through reading with me, are ‘The House of the Dead, or Prison Life in Siberia‘, ‘The Poetry of Architecture‘, ‘Man’s Place in the Universe‘, ‘The Orations of Demosthenes’ and ‘The Psychology of Character‘. The latter four books have come from the LFTT Library. The first book, ‘The House of the Dead’, came from my grandfathers Lending Library, which was open between 1957 & 58 as part of his corner shop in Artane.
It will be an eclectic hour or so, and hopefully will lead to some lively discussion around how the LFTT Library might be understood as a collaborator in the process of constituting life through making art, of whatever form.
Hope to see you there!
